Piper Motorsports 1985 Mercedes Benz 190E Body Grafted onto 2010 C63 AMG Chassis and Drivetrain Project

By far our most popular feature to-date which originally appeared here last November 26th, I have updated Piper Motorsports‘ “Frankenstein Mercedes Benz Project” once again with their latest build photos on the following page. Since the last time we checked in with their progress, the 190E/C63’s fully integrated roll cage has now been finished and suspension has been fitted, now it just awaits completion of it’s EVO 2 body work provided by Thorsten and properly sized wheels to fit inside. We look forward to seeing this one completed, but in the mean time we are thoroughly enjoying watching the amazing craftsmanship and attention to detail of it’s current build-in-progress. Here’s an absolutely outrageous build-in-progress that we could not miss out on featuring here…a 1985 Mercedes Benz 190E that is having it’s body transplanted onto a 2010 Mercedes Benz C63 AMG. The project is aptly named “Frankenstein Benz” and is being built by Piper Motorsport, the same brilliant maniacs who brought us the V10 BMW E30 M3 which we featured here just a few weeks ago HERE.
Other than the few photos here and a brief description, we really don’t have much to go on yet but this is definitely a project that we can’t miss witnessing the outcome of.

To quote their Facebook page directly, here’s the jest of what we got here so far: “To make a long story short we’re installing a mid 80’s 190E body on a late model C63 AMG. The 190E will feature the engine, transmission, entire driveline, suspension, brakes, fire wall, dash, electronics and even the floor pan from the C63 AMG. The exterior will resemble the old school EVO style 190’s, perhaps with some added DTM style flares. Enjoy the evolution and stay tuned as we progress!”

The Mid-Atlantic, Virginia shop has competed in Grand Am Pro racing, SCCA Pro and Club racing, NASA and so on, so we have faith that they know what they are doing. After all, didn’t you just see the V10 M3 that they did?

The late model AMG weighs in at just a few pounds under 4,000 and is powered by a 457 hp 6.2 liter V8. We are trying to imagine the havoc that engine and chassis is going to create when it is in a car that sheds quite a few hundred l.b.’s off of that one’s curb weight. We are looking forward to seeing the outcome. Stay posted…

“The roll cage is integrated into the 190E A, B, and C pillars and utilizes the new 2 x 2 box tubing rocker panel reinforcements, front fender brace reinforcements and rear shock towers on the C63 chassis as base plates. The bars are then stitch welded to the 190E chassis. It’s a shame the interior will hide such an intricate design!”

“The Frankenstein Mercedes make contact with the concrete. The KW Variant 3 coilovers finally made their way in, the chassis removed from the jig, and wheels on the ground. Now we can determine what size wheels to purchase.”
